The impact of battery recycling
In the 20+ years we have been operating our recycling program, we have worked with various companies and municipalities that share our core values to do the right thing for the environment.

What is the circular economy?
The circular economy is a concept built around zero waste. A “linear economy” moves in a straight line. From resource extraction, to manufacturing, to disposal.
The circular economy retains and recovers as much value as possible from resources by reusing, repairing, refurbishing, remanufacturing, repurposing, or recycling products and materials
Diverting from landfills
Each year millions of household batteries end up in landfills, where toxic metals could enter the waste stream and harm our environment.
Recycle Your Batteries, Canada! has helped to divert over 40 MILLION kg of household battery waste from landfills.
- April 2023: Recycle Your Batteries, Canada! celebrates 1 million kilograms of batteries recycled in Manitoba
- February 15, 2023: Canadians recycled almost 4.4 million kilograms of batteries in 2022
- June 19, 2023: Canadians recycle more than 40 million kilograms of batteries over 26 years
Sustainability: Our future depends on you
Batteries and other energy storage solutions are pivotal in combating global climate change, but a lot of work still has to be done in terms of our disposable culture and what we do with household battery waste.
In addition to consumers like you doing your part to collect, protect, and drop off used household batteries, the results we’re achieving wouldn’t be possible without the great efforts from our collection partners, stewards, and program members.
Our collection partners include the municipalities across Canada enrolled in the Recycle Your Batteries, Canada! program dedicated to properly and safely recycle household batteries, and participating retailers, who provide easy access for consumers to drop off their used household batteries.
Members are the producers, importers, brand owners and retailers of batteries (and products that contain batteries) that support this program.
They fund the Recycle Your Batteries, Canada! program to ensure that the batteries they are introducing into the marketplace are responsibly recycled when they reach their end of life.
