In partnership with Earth Rangers, Recycle Your Batteries, Canada! is excited to announce the results of the Spring edition of the Battery Blitz contest in Ontario. This season, 89 schools took on the challenge and students collected over 11,000 kg of batteries, proving that small actions can make a big difference.
Since 2015, the Battery Blitz contest has inspired young Canadians to recycle over 100,000 kg of used batteries across the country! It’s a fun, hands-on way for students to get involved in protecting our planet while building habits around sustainability and responsibility. Each battery collected helps keep harmful materials out of landfills, and by participating, students build sustainable habits that last a lifetime.
Several schools in Ontario took home prizes for their impressive efforts, including:
- 1st place: Sophiasburgh Central School (Ontario) for collecting over 821 kg of batteries.
- 2nd place: Princess Anne French Immersion Public School (Ontario) for collecting over 521 kg of batteries.
- 3rd place: St. Alfred Catholic Elementary School (Ontario) for collecting over 495 kg of batteries.
The award ceremony at Sophiasburgh Central School was a proud moment for the whole community. Prince Edward County’s Mayor, Steve Ferguson, joined the celebration with the students, applauding their commitment and emphasizing that everyone has a role to play in building a sustainable future, young or old.
The excitement continues with the Fall 2024 edition of Battery Blitz, as students from coast to coast roll up their sleeves to collect used batteries. Schools interested in joining the contest for 2025 can contact Earth Rangers for more information at lgalati@earthrangers.com.
