Lethbridge
Collection dates
- Batteries will be collected November 17-27, on your scheduled green cart collection day.
How to prepare batteries for collection
- Place your household batteries in the provided collection bag or any clear resealable bag.
- If you do not receive a collection bag, you can use your own plastic bag such as a Ziploc bag, to prepare your batteries for collection.
- Store them away from children and pets until collection day.
Where to place batteries
- On your collection day, place the sealed bag on top of your green cart so it is visible to collection crews.
- Do not place the bag inside the cart.
Accepted batteries
- Household single-use batteries under 5kg, including AA, AAA, C, D, and 9V.
Batteries NOT accepted
- Rechargeable batteries, coin/ button cell batteries, NiCad, NiMH, lithium-ion, car batteries, battery packs, and industrial batteries.

Okotoks
Collection dates
- Ototoks residents can take advantage of the Annual Curbside Battery Collection program to have their batteries conveniently collected from September 28 to October 9, 2026.
How to prepare batteries for collection
- To prepare your batteries for collection, simply follow these simple steps:
- Use electrical tape to cover the terminals of button cell and alkaline batteries over 9V.
- Place batteries into a clear, resealable plastic bag.
- Check your specific collection date. Collection will take place on your regular garbage and organics collection day between September 28 to October 9, 2026.
- On your collection date, place the sealed bags on top of your recycling black tote* and leave it at curbside.
* Please note that Recycling totes will not be serviced that week. They are used as an indicator that this household is participating in this specialized recycling initiative.
Where to place batteries
- Residents can place used household batteries in a sealed plastic bag and leave it on top of their black cart on their regular garbage collection day.
Accepted batteries
- The curbside collection program accepts only single-use alkaline batteries including standard AA, AAA, C, D, and 9-Volt batteries under 5kg each.
Batteries NOT accepted
- The curbside collection program does not accept:
- Lithium single-use batteries, including button and coin cells
- Nickel Cadmium (Ni-Cd)
- Nickel Metal Hydride (Ni-MH)
- Lithium Ion (Li-Ion)
- Nickel Zinc (Ni-Zn)
- Small Sealed Lead Acid
- Lithium-ion or other rechargeable batteries, or any batteries over 5 kg.

- Place acceptable batteries and electronics into separate, clear, sealable plastic bags.
- Recycling totes will not be serviced. They are used as an indicator that this household is participating in this specialized recycling initiative.
Where to place batteries
- On your collection day, place the sealed bag on top of your recycling tote so it is visible to collection crews.
- Do not place the bag inside the cart.

How to prepare batteries for collection
- Place single-use batteries in a clear or designated battery recycling bag. Store batteries in a cool, dry place away from flammable materials until collection day.
- Do not store batteries long-term in collection bags.
Where to place batteries
- On your collection day, place the sealed bags on top of your curbside collection cart so it is clearly visible. If no cart is set out, place the bag on the ground at the curb.
- Do not place batteries inside carts or recycling boxes.
Accepted batteries
- Single-use household batteries, including AAA, AA, A, C, D, 9V, and button batteries.
Batteries NOT accepted
- Rechargeable batteries, cell phones, laptop batteries, car batteries, and battery packs. These can be dropped off at the Barrie landfill site.

How to prepare batteries for collection
- Place your used or unwanted batteries inside a clear sealable bag (Ziploc or similar).
- Remember to cover 9V battery terminals and both sides of button batteries with tape.
Where to place batteries
- Put sealed bags where it’s visible to your collector on your regular collection day from November 9 to 12.
- Please do not place any loose batteries in your recycling box.
Accepted batteries
- Single-use dry cell batteries, including A, AA, AAA, C, D, 9V, button batteries, lantern batteries.
Batteries NOT accepted
- Rechargeable batteries (laptop, cellphone batteries, etc.).

Accepted batteries
Residents can set out spent household batteries (AA, AAA, C, D, 9V, button batteries, etc.) on their regular collection day. Please put batteries in sealed clear plastic bag(s) and place in front of the green bin.

Peel Region
Collection dates
- Batteries will be collected from October 19 to 30.
How to prepare batteries for collection
- Single-use batteries: Put directly into a clear resealable bag.
- Button cell batteries: Place tape around this type of battery.
- 9V batteries: Put tape over the metal contacts.
- Rechargeable batteries: Put tape over the metal contacts or place individually into separate clear bags, if preferred.
After putting tape on your button cell, 9V, or rechargeable batteries, store them in a clear bag.
Where to place batteries
- Place your batteries out for pickup on top of your closed organic (green) bin.
- If you don’t have a green bin, place your bag of batteries beside your recycling.
Accepted batteries
- All single-use and rechargeable batteries that weigh less than 5kg (11 lbs) are accepted.
Batteries NOT accepted
- Sealed lead acid batteries and car batteries are not accepted.

- Place acceptable batteries into the battery bag and seal using the zip tab.
- Clear ziploc bags can also be used.
Where to place batteries
- Place sealed battery bags on top of your cart on your regular collection day during the first full week of November.
Accepted batteries
- Dry cell, single use batteries:
- Standard AA, AAA, C, D and 9-Volt (both alkaline and heavy duty)
- Button batteries
- Due to regulatory requirements, only undamaged, single use, and dry cell batteries are acceptable for curbside collection.
Batteries NOT accepted
- Rechargeable battery packs (NiCad, NiMH, or Lithium Ion – typically used in laptop computers, cellular phones, etc.)
